Relationship Based Services
Adjusting to living alone brings in a great loneliness for elderly men and women, and this is often manifested in their inability to get out of the house to see others, because of reduced mobility or restrictions associated with transport problems. Within the household too, there are many things that appear to be difficult to them when it comes to a situation when they want to do the routine or daily tasks themselves, and these may be simplest of the tasks like changing a bulb, replacing a gas cylinder, stacking and disposing old newspapers, or cutting the toe nails etc.
The elderly care is a universal concept and the basic needs for physical care, safety, emotional, psychological and social support as well as various services associated with the fulfilling of these needs are equal to the elderly persons whether they belong to various layers of higher socio-economic strata or under-privileged strata of the society. While the Elderly and Geriatric caregiving is an ever-increasing need, it also has a vast potential of skilling and livelihoods to those who need regular income.
The above aspects helped us in understanding the potential importance of a trained workforce, that can visit them for basic support or initiatives, where our Vriddha Mitras can befriend them and provide the services they need with increased trust, faith and confidence.
Accordingly, our Vriddha Mitra visits them and provides companionship, picks up on small routine tasks outside the older person’s capacity; and also provides assisted safe movement on the street, and also ensures that the elderly is feeling cared for.
